Ziggy Stardust

Yet more trawling about in the dewy mists of time...

Probably my favourite album of all time. Every time I go back to it over the years it sounds as different and as exciting as the first time I heard it all those years ago. The album which inspired thousands to pick up a guitar after hearing the utterly electric screams and whines of Ronson's stuttering Les Paul. Nothing was ever the same after that.

Food

Nothing nicer than a large plate of spicy pasta.

...except a large plate of spicy pasta and a glass of red wine of course. But then...I wouldn't get any work done at all if it was lunch time.

More Tunes

Whilst we were wandering about Greenwich Village on our last day looking for presents to take home , we went into Urban Outfitters on 6th Avenue. They had some great music playing and I had to ask what it was. The answer was RJD2. I bought "Since We Last Spoke" from the same Bleeker Records store. After playing I realised that the track I'd really liked was by someone else they had on earlier so I'll never know what it was! Never mind...RJD2 sounds good...there's a link here with some sounds and stuff.

iTunes

I picked up a few cd's in New York when I was there a week or so ago - I found lots of rare Bowie stuff whilst rummaging about in the excellent Bleeker Records in Greenwich Village. Managed to restrain myself from spending a fortune but came out with 'The Legendary Lost Tapes' which features Bowie, Mott the Hoople and Lou Reed at the time of recording Ziggy Startdust at Trident Studios in 1972. Would have been great to have been a fly on the wall for those sessions.

Mott the Hoople

Find myself re-visiting Mott the Hoople in iTunes at the moment...still sounding suprisingly good 30 years later.

Also, I Loved the simplicity of those early Bowie albums...bass, drums, piano and Ronson's guitar...magic!

Struggling

Half the morning gone already and still haven't got into gear. Fatigue setting in no matter how many coffees I have.

Insomnia

Waking up far too early so decided to do some work. Amazing what one's brain does in the small hours, lying there in the dark. Deadlines, a cold and that still fleeting feeling of jet-lag aren't helping. I'm trying to finish off a project I've been working on for almost a year now. It's all horribly off track and looking forward to next week when it's all finished. Time to move on to something new soon.

Anyway, started a blog. I don't know why and don't know how long it'll last. Yet another distraction from work during the day.
